CJSW – Old building, new life
We get behind one of the most exciting adaptive reuse projects in Calgary, the transformation of the vacant 1912 King Edward School into the first of a series of creative hubs known as cSpace. The school will soon be a place where artists and non profits can produce, collaborate, exhibit and rehearse.
Kevin and Mairi Nyhoff are partners in Nyhoff Architecture, the firm heading the design. The sandstone building will be graciously carried into the 21st century. A new rehearsal space will be added on the west. Flexible studio pavilions and a shared street are also part of the design. And the project, which is 75% old building and 25% new, is designed to achieve a LEED Gold rating for sustainable design.
